# C++ Console App Quickstart

> Get started quickly with Ditto using the Ditto Quickstart Applications

## Prerequisites

Ditto’s C++ Console App Quickstart supports **Linux** only. Before getting started, ensure you have the following:

* [Git](https://git-scm.com/) installed on your machine
* A C++ compiler (such as [Clang](https://clang.llvm.org/get_started.html) or [GCC](https://gcc.gnu.org/install/))
* If using GCC (g++), version 11 or newer is needed
* [CMake](https://cmake.org/download/) (version 3.15.3 or later)
* [Make](https://www.gnu.org/software/make/) (for building the project)
* A Ditto [Portal](https://portal.ditto.live) account with a configured Ditto Database (see [Getting SDK Connection Details](/cloud/portal/getting-sdk-connection-details))

## Get Started

### 1. Clone the Repository

### 2. Configure Ditto

#### Get Ditto Database ID, Playground Token, and Auth URL

#### Add Ditto Credentials

1. Copy the `.env.sample` file at the top level of the `quickstart` repo to `.env` and add your app ID and online playground token.
   ```shell theme={null}
   cp .env.sample .env
   ```
2. Update the `.env` file with the Database ID and Playground Token from your Ditto Database
   ```shell theme={null}
   DITTO_APP_ID="REPLACE_ME_WITH_YOUR_DATABASE_ID"
   DITTO_PLAYGROUND_TOKEN="REPLACE_ME_WITH_YOUR_PLAYGROUND_TOKEN"
   DITTO_AUTH_URL="REPLACE_ME_WITH_YOUR_AUTH_URL"
   ```

#### Download, Unpack, and Link Ditto

1. Navigate to the `sdk` subdirectory of the project directory
   ```shell theme={null}
   cd cpp-tui/taskscpp/sdk
   ```
2. Download `Ditto.tar.gz` and unpack an archive containing the `libditto.a` static library and Ditto header.

     ```

### 3. Run the Application

1. Navigate back to the project directory
   ```shell theme={null}
   cd ..
   ```
2. Build the application
   ```shell theme={null}
   make build
   ```
3. Run the application
   ```shell theme={null}
   ./build/taskscpp
   ```
