Kotlin for Android Quickstart

Prerequisites

Ditto’s Kotlin Quickstart supports Android. Before getting started, ensure you have the following:

• Android Studio Meerkat 2024.3.1 Patch 1 or later installed
• Ditto SDK 5.2.0 requires Android compileSdk 36 or later; install Android SDK Platform 36. The quickstart sets compileSdk to 36.
• Git installed on your machine
• A Ditto Portal account with a configured Ditto Database (see Getting SDK Connection Details)

Get Started

1. Clone the Repository

2. Configure Ditto

In the Ditto Portal, open your database’s Connect via SDK tab and copy its Database ID, Development Token, and URL.

Add Ditto Credentials

1. From the quickstart directory, copy .env.sample to .env:
   cp .env.sample .env
   
2. Set the Database ID, Development Token, and Server URL in .env:
   DITTO_DATABASE_ID="REPLACE_ME_WITH_YOUR_DATABASE_ID"
   DITTO_DEVELOPMENT_TOKEN="REPLACE_ME_WITH_YOUR_DEVELOPMENT_TOKEN"
   DITTO_SERVER_URL="REPLACE_ME_WITH_YOUR_URL"
   

This quickstart pins Kotlin Gradle Plugin 2.3.20 alongside Ditto SDK 5.2.0.

3. Run the Application

1. Launch Android Studio and open the quickstart/android-kotlin/QuickStartTasks directory.
2. In Android Studio, select a connected Android device, or create and launch an Android emulator and select it as the destination, then choose the Run > Run 'app' menu item.
